 The Languedoc...
The
Hérault introduces the biggest wine producing département of France,
with rural delights equal to those of Provence - wine regions like
the Minervois, Pézenas, Languedoc's "little Paris", and the
Mediterranean end of the serendipitous tree lined Canal du Midi -
the most beautiful canal in the world, and a lovely spot for
spending some lazy time on the water. Béziers' life centres around
the Allées Paul Riquet, a broad promenade of plane trees named after
the city's great benefactor, the builder of the Canal du
Midi.

The canal connects Sète, on the
Mediterranean, with Toulouse and thence to the Atlantic by way of
the river Garonne. For many Toulouse will be the gateway to
Languedoc. La Ville Rose, sitting pretty on the Garonne, may be full
of medieval art and buildings, but it is also France's Space City,
home to Airbus.
North of Montpellier lies the haunted,
austere garrigue country, with medieval St Martin de Londres and St
Guilheim le Désert, as well as the small, green mountain chain of
the Espinouse, now a regional park.
The Hérault's coast
offers long miles of open beaches, coastal lagoons full of oysters
and resorts ranging from the pretty town of Agde, founded by the
Greeks, to futuristic La Grande Motte.
In the Aude department
you will find the surprising city of Narbonne, with its magnificent
cathedral, and Carcassonne, the biggest and best-preserved medieval
fortress city in Europe.

Beyond there lies Roussillon. The Catalan
corner of France is another world, one that increasingly looks more
towards Barcelona than Paris. Perpignan, the 'centre of the
universe' to Salvador Dali, has a wealth of medieval art, and nearby
is Collioure, inspiration of the Fauvist painters, on the delicious
Côte Vermeille.

Why we chose the
Languedoc and Villeneuve lès
Béziers?
The Languedoc region in the South of
France is famous for its days of sunshine, fine wine and food,
and of course its history, especially the magnificent heritage
listed Canal du Midi which traverses our village.
Easy access to the local airport of
Béziers just 8km, or nearby Montpellier, with easy connecting
flights to Paris, London and beyond.
 The charmisa of Maison
Ariette with its facilities and ambience is hard to
beat.
The village offers a choice of
boulangeries, a charcuterie, fleuriste, epicerie and market
stalls in la Place three times a week. And to keep you in
touch with the world, there is a brand new mediatheque and
library.
Immerse yourself in the memories of
former centuries when everything was calm, and watch the
barges go by as you stroll along beneath the majestic plane
trees, planted in the reign of Louis XIV.
